Privacy Tree Installation in Ooltewah, TN

Using Spartan Cypress to create privacy

Before privacy tree installation in Ooltewah

This family in Ooltewah had a hot tub that faced a back alley and several nearby neighbors. Since their yard was only grass, there was nothing blocking the view to their hot tub.

They called Ray Lawns to come install some privacy trees to solve the problem.

They could have put in a fence, but privacy trees last much longer and are better for the environment.

Brian decided that the space was too small for most trees, but he knew it worked perfectly for Spartan Cypress (Juniperus Chinensis ‘Spartan’), which are 15 inches wide.

Ray Lawns planted the trees in good topsoil and used root stimulator solution and holly tone as a fertilizer. The root stimulator solution is fantastic at getting the trees established from the start. Then they added weed barrier fabric to keep pesky weeds from taking over. Brian’s experience has shown that using good topsoil makes all the difference in getting trees to thrive and survive.

As you can see in this photo, Ray Lawns planted the Spartan Cypress trees above the grade of the rest of the soil.

Brian’s team used Indiana River rock on top of the weed barrier fabric and installed aged 6 to 12 inch river rock as a border.

Brian went back to visit this family a year later, and he was happy with how the project looks after the grass seed came in really nicely and the Spartan Cypress trees had filled out a bit.

There’s more to privacy tree installation in Ooltewah, TN than just digging a hole and dropping them in the ground.

The Chattanooga area is so full of clay that you need to put the trees at least 2 inches above the grade of the earth or else you run the risk of the tree sitting in a puddle of water that covers the top of the root ball and rots the roots. Parts of our country with better soil and better drainage don’t require that method of planting, but most of Hamilton county and north Georgia needs the trees to be planted above grade since this particular area does not drain well at all.

The great thing about Spartan Cypress is that they grow quickly, are low maintenance, can get up to 15-20 feet tall, and are tolerant to heat and cold. They are perfect for the clay soil that is found in the Chattanooga area. Once they are established, they are even drought-tolerant.

These trees were purchased at The Barn Nursery and have a one year warranty on them.
